Today, the region of the Middle East is known primarily for its rich oil resources. The presence of oil within the region is one of the most important factors to be considered in all observations to be made about the Middle East. In addition to the oil reality, the economic situation of the region also plays a decisive role in security perceptions. The oil and economic structure reflects the security perceptions of the region on the basis of countries, and in some cases are the main determinant. The efficiency of oil resources has become the most effective factor in the development of the Middle East region over time. The importance of oil is seen when the external forces' interest in the region and the general destabilization environment are shaped by the formation of social, economic, political and military structures.

Particularly outside the region have been active for a long time in the Middle East to acquire oil trumps. This attractiveness of oil is the main factor in the formation of the region's unstable structure and fragile administrations. While intra-regional states consider oil in short-term planning from a narrower point of view, external forces have always dealt with oil as a long-term factor, by establishing their hegemonies in the region. The use and safety of oil has also been taken into consideration by the different states in time, and in the following stages effective examples have emerged in the formation of the conflicts of oil policies. External forces, which have played a role in the formation of the conflicts within the region, have actively participated in conflicts many times in the direction of their policies on petroleum. The most well-known of these is the Gulf War which took place in 1990 as a result of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.
